Design a molecule that satisfies all the following conditions.

  1. Molecule must contain carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and halogen.
  2. Molecule must have at lease one π bond
  3. Molecule must have at lease one polar bond
  4. Molecule must have at lease one central atom with sp2 hybridization
  5. Molecule must have at lease one bond with bonding scheme X(sp2) – Y(2p)
  6. Molecule must have at lease one bond with bonding scheme X(sp3) – Y(3p)
  7. Molecule must have at lease one six-member ring

  2. Label at least one π bond. (Directly label on your molecule, but make sure your molecular structure is legible.)
  3. Label at least one atom with sp2 hybridization.
  4. Label the bond (at least one) with bonding scheme X(sp2) – Y(2p).

  1. Draw your molecule using free software Avogadro. After you complete the ”optimize geometry” option, please export your molecule to a png file (Use ”File” ”Export” ”Graphics” and then choose file type png.) Upload this file to gradescope.
  2. Save your molecule to a xyz file (use ”File” ”Save” and then choose file type ”xyz”). Upload this file to gradescope.
  3. Find another student in your Zoom section, and connect your molecule with hers/his. Try to find a connection that the greatest number of atoms are at the same plain. (Feel free to delete some terminal atoms when you make the connection.) Please export the connected molecule to a png file. (Use ”File” ”Export” ”Graphics” and then choose file type png.) Upload this file to gradescope. Please write down the other student’s full name in your answer.
